IOMEGA 2.0 GIGABYTE TAPE BACKUP DRIVE
Note: You should back up:1) the entire C:\ drive (hard drive) once a month, or at least every other month;
2) new files and modified files once a week, or at least every two weeks.
(If your computer is used in a business, you may want to back up your new/modified files every day.)
Iomega Ditto 2.0 GB Tape Backup Drive:
1) Verify that a tape is in the Iomega Tape Drive. (Each cartridge holds about 2,000 Megabytes of compressed
data.)
2) Double-click on the The Works icon on the desktop.
3) Click on All Selected Files where it says: "What Files to Back Up." Click on 3. How to Back Up, then on Customize. Then click on Security. Click into the box to put a checkmark where it says, "Compare after Backup" (the backup will now take twice as long because the computer will check each file on the tape with the original file on the hard disk and correct any errors it finds).
4) Click on the button that says: 4. When to Back Up.
5) Click on Back up Now.
6) Click on 5. Start.
7) If you receive a message saying that the tape is full, insert another tape –or– click on Overwrite [old volumes].
8) Your tape backup should be finished in about two hours or so, depending on how much data you have. You can still use your computer during the tape backup, but files that are open and in use during the backup cannot be copied to the tape. Just to be on the safe side, you should probably not use your computer at all while it is backing up.
9) To back up just the new files added (and modified files) since the last time you backed up your files, click next to New and Changed Files in Step 3 above, instead of All Selected Files and follow the rest of the instructions above.
10) When the computer asks you if it should "Save the Back-Up Job?," type in a name like "Complete C:\ Drive BU" for a Full Backup –or– "Differential BU" for New and Changed Files only. Then click on OK.
11) When the computer asks you if it should Overwrite or Append (Add) this back-up job to the existing back-up jobs (volumes) on the Tape, select Overwrite if this is a complete C:\ drive backup, and Append if this is a monthly backup (If the tape is full, click on Overwrite.)
12) Click on Save at the exit menu.
