THE “3-FINGER SALUTE”

Ctrl-Alt-Delete

Note: This is a safer way to shut down the computer than holding down the physical Power button for 4-seconds or longer, unplugging the power cord, or turning OFF the power strip or surge protector.

For Windows XP:

1) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and briefly press the Delete key once. Release the Ctrl and Alt keys.

2) Wait a few moments for the Windows Task Manager to pop up on the screen.

3) Click on Shut Down at the top of the window.

4) Click on Shut Down on the menu pad that pops down.

5) Wait a few moments for the computer to shut down. If it doesn’t shut down after waiting at least 3 minutes, unplug the power cord, or turn OFF the power strip or surge protector.

Caution: Be sure you plug the power cord back in securely, and you don't accidentally unplug any other cords, such as the mouse or keyboard connector!

For Windows Vista:

1) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and briefly press the Delete key once. Release the Ctrl and Alt keys

 

2) Click on the tiny red Up Arrow button next to the Power button (on the screen).   

3) Click on Shut Down at the right.

4) Wait a few moments for the computer to shut down. If it doesn’t shut down after waiting at least 3 minutes, unplug the power cord, or turn OFF the power strip or surge protector.

For earlier versions of Windows:

1) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and briefly press the Delete key once. Release the Ctrl and Alt keys

2) Click on the Shut Down button.

3) Wait a few moments for the computer to shut down. If it doesn’t shut down after waiting at least 3 minutes, unplug the power cord, or turn OFF the power strip or surge protector.
