Proxy Bid = maximum amount you are willing to pay. (eBay will automatically bid for you, up to the maximum amount, to keep you "in the hunt.").

Reserve Price = the lowest price a seller is willing to take.

III. SELLING AN ITEM

1) Choose a category for your item, such as "Antiques & Art," "Automotive," "Computers" and so on.

2) Type in your User ID and Password, unless you Signed In on the home page.

3) Type in a title for this item, such as, "NEC 17" Monitor" or "Babe Ruth Autographed Baseball".

4) Type in a full Description for the item.

5) If you wish to add your item to the "Gallery," you can put a check mark next to this. (This will cost you $0.25.) The "Gallery" is a showcase of items, usually with pictures, on a special part of each section.

6) If you want your item "featured in the Gallery," put a check mark next to this. (This will cost you $19.95 extra.) This puts your item on the front page of each section.

7) If you want your item to be listed in bold type, put a check mark next to this. (This will cost you $2.00 extra.)

8) If you want your item to be "Featured in that Category," put a check mark next to this. (This will cost you $14.95 extra.)

9) Next to "Item Location," type in the location of the item (e.g., San Diego, CA).

10) Click on the Down Arrow next to "Choose the region nearest you," and select "CA - San Diego."

11) If you wish to accept an escrow service, click to put a check mark next to "I will pay for an escrow service," or "Buyer pays for escrow service." (An "escrow service" holds the payment until the buyer informs them that they are satisfied with the item you sold to them, then releases the payment to you, minus the escrow service's service charge.)

12) Under "Shipping," click to put a checkmark next to "Seller pays shipping," "Buyer pays fixed amount," or "Buyer pays actual shipping amount."

13) Next to "Quantity," type in the number of items you have to sell in this lot.

15) Next to "Duration," select the duration of this auction (usually 7 days).

16) Next to "Reserve Price," type in the lowest price you are willing to accept. This will be kept hidden. The bidders will know, however, if the reserve price has been met or exceeded by an indication next to the price of your item.

17) Click on the Review button. Closely check the information about your item for errors. If there are no errors or changes to be made, click on the Change Listing button; otherwise click on Submit my listing.

18) Be sure to write down the Item Number, or print out the e-mail confirmation message that will soon be in your e-mail Inbox.
