TO MAKE A COPY ON THE HP OFFICEJET PRO 8500:
1) Insert the original document face-up in the Automatic Document Feeder on the top of the Officejet Pro 8500. (You can put up to 15 pages in the Feeder.)
2) Press the Copy button at the top right on the front panel of the Officejet Pro 8500.
3) Press a number key on the numeric keypad at the left if you want to make more than one copy of the originals. (For example, press the 3 key if you want to make three copies.)
4) Press the Black button for black & white copies under Start Copy. (Or press the Color button for color copies.)
TO PRINT IN FAST/ECONOMICAL MODE, TO PRINT ON BOTH SIDES, TO PRINT IN GRAYSCALE:
1) In any program in which you can print, click on File, then on Print.
2) Click on the Preferences (or Properties) button.
3) Click on the Down Arrow next to whatever is in the Print quality: box, then click on Draft.
4) Click on the Down Arrow next to whatever is in the Print on both sides: box, then click on Automatically.
5) Click on the Down Arrow next to whatever is in the Print in grayscale: box, then click on High Quality.
6) Click on OK.
7) Click on Print.
8) The printer will print much faster using only black ink on both sides of the paper (so you save paper).
TO SAVE THE ABOVE SETTINGS:
1) If the HP Officejet Pro 8500 forgets the above settings, double-click on the HP Solution Center icon on the desktop.
2) Click on the large Printer Settings button.
3) Change all of the settings to what you want (for example, change the Print quality: to Draft so it prints faster).
4) Click on OK.

TO SEND A FAX DIRECTLY FROM THE COMPUTER (FROM MICROSOFT WORD, FOR EXAMPLE):
1) Open a Microsoft Word document (or create your own fax cover sheet in Word).
2) Click on File, then on Print.
3) Click on the Down Arrow next to whatever is in the [Printer] Name: box, then click on HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a series fax. Click on OK.
4) Type the recipient’s first name, last name and fax number in the appropriate boxes.
5) Click to put a check mark next to ü Pages in unit under Include: if you want to fax some pages that are in the Automatic Document Feeder along with the Microsoft Word document. (Be sure to put the pages face-up in the Automatic Document Feeder first.)
6) Click on the green Send Fax button below.
