TEMPORARY FILES
METHOD 1 - DELETING TEMPORARY FILES (Windows 98) - the manual way:
1) Double-click on the Windows Explorer.
2) Scroll down to the "C:\Windows" folder.
3) Double-click on the "C:\Windows" folder.
4) Scroll down to the "Temp" sub-folder.
5) Click on the top file in the "Temp" sub-folder.
6) Scroll down so that you can see the bottom file in the "Temp" sub-folder.
7) While holding down the Shift key on the keyboard, click on the bottom file.
8) Press the Delete key on the keyboard. Click on Yes to delete the files. (Actually, the files will be moved to the Recycle Bin.)
9) If you get a message saying that the computer cannot delete a certain file, then try deleting only 5-10 files at a time. (Click on the top file, then Shift-Click on the bottom file in the 5 or 10 file block.) [Certain files may not be deletable unless you close all open programs or restart the computer.]
METHOD 2 - DELETING TEMPORARY FILES (Windows 98) - the more automatic way:
1) Click on Start, then on Programs, then on Accessories. Click on System Tools, then on Disk Cleanup.
2) Click on OK (to select the C: drive).
3) Click into the small white box next to "Temporary files" to put a check mark into it. (You can also click into the small white box next to "Temporary Internet Files" if you want to delete all of the web pages you have recently visited--a copy of these web pages is stored on your hard drive because it is faster to access these page files than get the original ones from the Internet each time you want to see them.)
4) Click on OK.
Caution: DO NOT delete the files in the "Temporary Internet Files" folder using the manual method given above in METHOD 1. You could damage the system files and not be able to start the computer!
