TO PURCHASE THE NORTON INTERNET SECURITY 2007 OR NORTON ANTIVIRUS 2007 PROGRAM ONLINE:

Note: You may need to remove the Spy Sweeper program or any other programs that conflicts with the Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus programs first if you want to install the latest version of the Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus program. You will be told of any programs you need to remove during the installation process. To remove the Spy Sweeper program or any other program, you can usually click on Start, then on All Programs or Programs, then on Webroot (or the name of the program or manufacturer), then on Spy Sweeper (or the name of the program), then on Uninstall Spy Sweeper (or the name of the program).

Note 2: “Symantec” and “Norton” mean the same thing in these instructions. Symantec is the manufacturer of Norton products.

Note 3: Norton Internet Security contains Norton AntiVirus, so you don't need both. Norton Internet Security also contains Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Confidential, Norton AntiSpam, and a few other programs that altogether protect your computer against viruses, spyware, hackers, and other unfortunate occurrences.

Note 4: You could go to your favorite large computer mega-store and purchase the retail version of Norton Internet Security 2007, but downloading it is a faster way to get it installed on your computer if you have high speed Internet access. You could purchase both the CD and the downloaded version in step # 6 below, if you are willing to spend a little bit extra, and then have the CD as a backup, but you can transfer the downloaded file to a blank CD yourself in lieu of purchasing the CD.

1) Open the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser or your favorite web browser.

2) Type www.symantec.com in the Address box at the top, then click on the Go button, or press the Enter key on the keyboard.

3) Click on Products in the center of the page.

4) Click on Norton Internet Security 2007.

5) Click on the Purchase Options button.

6) Click on the Down Arrow next to:  Choose your delivery options, then click on Download  $69.99.

7) Click on Add to Cart.

8) If you are asked to update your order to a 2-year subscription, either click on Yes or No thanks, proceed to checkout with original order. There is an additional charge of $45.00 for a 2-year subscription.

9) Type in your personal data (first name, last name, e-mail address, etc.) in the appropriate boxes.

10) Type your credit card info in the appropriate boxes.

11) Type your desired password in the Password box. The password must be between 4 and 15 characters long.

12) Click on the Continue button. Wait for Symantec to verify that your credit card is chargeable.

13) Click on the View Invoice button if you want to see your invoice for this order. Click on Print Invoice if you want to print it out.

14) Click on the Complete Your Order button.

15) Click on the Download button next to Norton Internet Security 2007.

16) If you receive a warning about needing to click on the Install ActiveX Control button, which is the extra-wide button at the top of the Internet Explorer window just above the web page area, click on the button.

17) Wait for the gold progress bar to slowly inch its way across to the right edge. It will say, “Extracting files” under this progress bar and show the files that it is installing.

18) Click on the I agree button when it comes up on the screen. This is to agree to all the legalese in the License Agreement.

19) Click on Next. Don’t install the Yahoo Toolbar, unless you want this at the top of your Internet Explorer window.

20) Click on Skip Scan or Start Scan to scan for viruses before you proceed with the installation process. Some viruses can prevent the installation of NIS.

21) Wait a few moments.

22) When the computer asks if you would like to restart the computer, click on the Yes button.

23) Wait a few minutes for the installation to continue.

24) Click on  ¤ Restart Windows Now (recommended).

25) Click on the Finish button.

26) When the computer finishes restarting and the desktop with all of your icons appears again, wait long enough for the following options window to appear:

¤ Sign in to an existing Norton Account if you’ve done the update process before and already have an account with Symantec.

¤ Create a Norton Account if you’ve never created an account with Symantec.

If you selected the former, type your e-mail address and password in the appropriate boxes. If you forgot your password, click on the Forgot Password link. Your password will then be sent to the e-mail address you used when you created your Norton account.

If you selected the latter, type in your personal data, and select a Security Question, such as “What is your favorite sport?” Then type the answer to the Security Question in the appropriate box.

27) Click on Next.

28) Click on Finish.

29) Click to run the LiveUpdate sub-program. This will update the list of new viruses (there are approximately 10 new viruses introduced every day) and install program updates to the various sub-programs that make up the NIS program.

30) Click on Next.

31) You should then see a list of the available updates, such as the Norton AntiVirus Virus Definitions List (the list of new viruses), the Symantec Security Software Update, the Symantec Trusted Applications List (Norton will automatically allow programs, such as Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, on this list to access the Internet), and so on.

32) Click on Next.

33) Click on Finish.

34) Click on  ¤ Restart your computer now.

35) Click on OK.

Note: Be sure to wait long enough each time you restart the computer for the NIS program to display the next window in the installation process.

36) When the Norton Protection Center icon appears on the Task Bar, which is just to the left of the System Tray (where the clock is) in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, right-click on the icon, then click on Show Norton Status in System Tray.  This will free up valuable real estate on the Task Bar.

Note: The Norton Protection Center icon is a circular gold icon with an oscilloscope trace on it.

37) See our instructions for running a scan, running the LiveUpdate sub-program and so on.

Note: Prices are subject to change without notice. The procedure for renewing your subscription to NIS is subject to frequent changes without notice. Please make the appropriate changes to these instructions as needed.
